The Department of Environment in Javea has called upon all horticulturists, gardening professionals and neighbours in general to meeting to tackle the plague of the red palm weevil, an insect that is affecting hundreds of Canary Island palms that are very common in the municipality.
According to information from the department headed by Councillor Doris Courcelles, the plague that began years ago appears to continue to spread and threatens to migrate to other palm varieties.
Therefore, the Town Council wants to develop a strategy of action jointly with all the professionals and evaluate the results of actions taken so far to try to stem the spread of red palm weevil, which has become an extremely serious environmental peril.
In this first contact they will exchange views and experiences to try to identify the methods or techniques that the professionals have deemed more successful and whether or not it is necessary to implement new measures to control the removal of the infected trees or their transport. The meeting will be on Monday November 21 at 7.00 pm in the meeting room of the Museum (entrance is on the Calle Mayor, opposite the Municipal Tax Office Building).
