Javea Mayor, Jose Chulvi, attended the general meeting of the association of businessmen from the Arenal beach on Thursday morning. The mayor, along with the Councillors for Finance, Oscar Anton, and Public Safety, Juan Ortolá, explained the project and actions the Town Hall has planned for this important tourist area.
In this regard, Chulvi explained the latest updates on the re-pavement project for the Paseo del Arenal, which is currently in the bidding phase. According to the estimates provided by the Department of Infrastructure in Valencia, the works could begin in January. The plan, which consists of replacing the pavement, lampposts and railings, has a four-month time frame. Therefore, the executive hopes to have everything finished and ready for the coming summer season.
Furthermore, the mayor stated that in parallel to the "paseo" works, the Town Hall is preparing a municipal project to improve services to the beach. This proposal will reflect the demands and requests made by the business association, which he also invited to contribute its ideas in the preparatory process of the Strategic Plan. For the mayor, the Strategic Plan is a fundamental tool for the town's economic revitalization, in which tourism "will have an important role."
José Chulvi explained that his intention is that the highly demanded renovation of the Arenal promenade will generate a "ripple effect" that will allow the overall improvement of the entire Arenal district, both for tourists and residents there.
In this regard, some progress has been made in terms of traffic improvements, such as the construction of several roundabouts to reduce traffic congestion. Also, a request for financial assistance was sent to the Provincial Council of Alicante (Diputación) for one of the roundabouts that was temporarily marked this summer, as well as a request for a new roundabout to be built between the Saladar and Tossalet. Finally, Councillor Oscar Anton informed the group that negotiations with landowners along Saladar 2 had taken place to prepare for the construction of another roundabout that will regulate traffic and which will cost 400,000 euros, a sum to be paid in part by the landowners.
Anton, who expressed the commitment of the local government to keep making small improvements to the beach every day, also informed of future projects in the planning phases, such as measures to end the flooding in the calle Niza or equipping the Tourist Office in the Arenal so that residents can carry out certain administrative procedures there, such as requesting a residency certificate or submitting a documents or formal request, without the need of going up to the Town Hall.
For his part, the head of Security, Juan Ortolá, expressed his intention to meet the demands of the business community and strengthen the police force during the summer so that there are sufficient agents to ensure safety and assist visitors when needed.
In his closing statements to the Arenal business community, the Mayor ensured all present that the team in government was "receptive" to hearing any and all claims, and that if any of those are not attended, he would "explain why."
Dani Silva, President of the Arenal Business Association spoke on behalf of his group, thanking the leaders for their presence at the meeting and the interest being shown for the Arenal, Javea's most renowned tourist area "but one that has not been invested in in the past 15 years," he lamented. Silva also expressed the will of the business community to pitch in and work hand in hand with the Town Hall for a better future.
